"Education deserves an optimal environment"

Bob van den Steenhoven, managing director of the Herenweg School in Wassenaar will start using the Goflow ventilation system this school year. "Education is top sport. I think that as an employer you have to create the optimal environment for the teaching staff and, of course, the pupils."

"The Herenweg School building is listed. The school was far from meeting the 'fresh schools' standard. I think this is true of 80 per cent of schools," says headmaster Bob van den Steenhoven: "We had a somewhat older, but well-maintained, mechanical extraction system. Still, the classrooms were soon too hot or musty. Then we would open a window or use a fan. But that's obviously not a structural solution."

Van den Steenhoven heard about the idea from Goflow founder Norbert Vroege and experienced clean air for himself in the Goflow Experience Lab. "That was fantastic, I was immediately excited. I expect a lot from vertical ventilation. There are lots of national and international studies showing a relationship between ventilation and temperature and how people feel, the performance they deliver and absenteeism. Like in a lot of schools, a virus spread through the classroom at our school at lightning speed. If there was a flu outbreak, you noticed it immediately among colleagues and students. So I also really expect absenteeism among pupils and teachers to decrease and the system to contribute positively to pupils' performance."

The school headmaster concludes, "If you want to perform optimally, you also have to make sure the conditions are right. We are very happy to have been given this opportunity and to be completely unburdened in the process. I hope many schools will follow."
